R.I.P. Gourmet Magazine

Conde Nast CEO Chuck Townsend announced this week in an internal memo that Gourmet Magazine was kaput. He wrote: "Gourmet magazine will cease monthly publication, but we will remain committed to the brand, retaining Gourmet’s book publishing and television programming, and Gourmet recipes on Epicurious.com. We will concentrate our publishing activities in the epicurean category on Bon Appétit.”

McKinsey & Co. was hired to do a cost study and the results are that Brides and Cookie Magazine (oh well) will also be shut down. A sad day for foodies everywhere.

Gourmet’s website joined in delivering the bad news:

"Please be advised that Gourmet magazine will cease publication after the November issue.Subscribers can look forward to receiving Bon Appetit magazine for the remainder of their subscription. The Gourmet.com website will remain available during a transitional period, and access to Gourmet recipes will also remain available via sister site Epicurious.com and the Epi iPhone application. We regret any inconvenience, and look forward to your continued readership.
