T in Tel Aviv is reading the book and loving it. Unfortunately this foodie did not get a chance to see the film before leaving U.S. soil and the film won’t open until mid-October in Israel. My well worn copy of Mastering the Art of French Cooking sits proudly on my library shelf and was just joined by the new 40th Anniversary Edition (thank you K.F.R).

However…there is a way to see "Julie & Julia" NEXT WEEK here in Israel! Noted Israeli cookbook writer, humorist and (very) entertaining person Tami Sirkis , in cooperation with the Rav Chen cinema chain, is hosting “Morning at the Movies”. Light refreshments will be served at 10:00, Tami will speak (in Hebrew) at 10:30 and the film shown at 11:15. There are 4 screenings scheduled (one each) in Rehovot on the 23rd, in Kiryat Ono on the 24th, Givatayim on the 25th and Herzliya on the 26th. Tickets can be ordered in advance for 49 NIS or purchased at the box offices for 45 NIS.
Seems that most foodies have a Julia Child story to share whether it be their personal cooking experience (Caneton a’ l’Orange for T in Tel Aviv), Dan Aykroyd’s parody of Julia on Saturday Night Live, or Rob Eshman post on the Los Angeles Jewish Journal’s Foodaism blog entitled “Rob and Julia”.
